

About Berkeley Heart Lab
To assist us in designing a customized treatment plan for you we utilize the Berkeley Heart Lab Advanced Cardiovascular test, which medicare will pay for. This technology has been proven in research investigating the risk factors, treatment regimes and outcomes in heart disease patients. Conventional tests don't measure lipoprotein "subclasses". The Berkeley goes beyond conventional cholesterol tests to identify unique factors that put you at risk for a heart attack.All you need is a routine blood draw.
Who needs a Berkeley?
If you have two or more of the following, then you should consider having a Berkeley done.
- Have heart disease or have had a heart attack(This counts as two)
- Family history of heart disease or heart attack before the age of 50
- Total cholesterol > 200mg/dL
- LDL cholesterol > 130mg/dL(the bad cholesterol) or if you have had a heart attack, LDL cholesterol > 100mg/dL
- Triglycerides > 140mg/dL
- HDL cholesterol < 40mg/dL(the good cholesterol)
- Systolic blood pressure(the top number) > 140mmHg
- Diastolic blood pressure(the bottom number) > 90mmHg
- Diabetes(This counts as two)
- Obesity
- Cigarette Smoker
- Physical inactivity
